** The QFD typically responds to approximately 200 alarms each year. Since 2020 and continuing in 2024, however, we have experienced twice the number of Calls compared to prior years. One of the most dangerous calls all year. Approx 1000 pds of product remained in the tank. The stem for the gauge had broken off in the tank and the gas co. assumed it to be empty; the tank itself was being replaced due to deteriorating condition. As the tank was lifted for removal, LP escaped at a violent rate causing ice build-up. The valve was kept open by debris. Paraco Hazmat was called. QFD provided two hose streams for cooling and a RIT team for Paraco crew for the hole and tank. End resulted in LPG flares for tank to burn itself out. Why we train . Good job QFD on what could have been the alternative....not a good one. Thank you SCFA.
